BLACKNESS: PORTRAYALS AND ROLES OF BLACKS IN MEDIA is a panel discussion that will take place December 2, 2010 at 10am in the Msecenter located at 1230 Raymond Road in Jackson. One of our panelists is Stephanie Maxwell,a reporter/anchor at WAPT-TV in Jackson, Ms.





Stephanie Maxwell is thrilled to be back in Mississippi where her news career started. She now co-anchors 16 WAPT News at 5 pm, 6pm and 10pm. She can remember watching the evening news as a little girl in Georgia, thinking she would one day be just like those news anchors she admired.

She worked as weekend anchor and reporter in Greenville, Miss., at WXVT-TV. She also worked in Augusta, Ga., as reporter and anchor at WAGT-TV and in Greenville/New Bern, N.C., at WCTI-TV where she was 5 pm anchor and consumer reporter. Most recently, she was morning anchor and reporter at WHNS-TV FOX Carolina in Greenville, S.C.

Stephanie received an award from the North Carolina Associated Press for an Enterprise/Investigative story about illegal dumping in the Croatan National Forest. In 2007, Stephanie received a Southeast EMMY nomination for Best News Anchor.
Stephanie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, but considers herself a Georgia Peach and a Tar Heel. She grew up in Atlanta and is a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

When she isn’t chasing stories, she enjoys reading, cooking, fantasy football, watching football and basketball, and adding to her shoe collection. She also loves reading and speaking at schools and hosting events in the community. Her family is her pride and joy, especially her three precocious nieces.

Stephanie is a member of the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, UNC Educational Foundation (Rams Club), National Association of Black Journalists, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
